Jackie Mitchell was born in Ireland, brought up in Bahrain, educated in Dublin and graduated with BA Hons Art Degree 1990. Jackie resides in Greystones, having recently returned from a sojourn in Spain. Traditional fishing harbours in Spain, Ireland & Scotland provide an infinite source of material for her work.

Intrigued by the ocean from a young age her degree show was based on sub-sea marine life. She manages to expose the characteristics of authentic rustic fishing boats and capture elements of the surrounding maritime environment. The dynamic quality of Spanish light has been an inspiring factor with emphasis on graphic reflection, shadow, and contour. Features include abstract depiction of calm and colourful imagery. In addition - 'canvas on canvas' compositions combine fragments of both nautical portraits & abstract expressionist collage.
